THE FARMHOUSE

This was a fun project because we were asked to create our shaders as part of our groups monthly lighting challenge. It allowed me to learn and use two new software tools: Substance Painter and Xgen. I wanted to create a colorful, playful, and warm environment.

My inspiration for the scene was this screencap from the film Vivo by Sony Pictures Animation.

By analyzing the references, I established a couple of tasks for the project.

  • One strong warm directional light.

  • Saturated, bold, colorful assets.

  • Use of many textures, patterns, and details throughout the image.

  • Chaotic room with a strong hierarchy for focus.

  • I established a camera angle that could show the room's details.

  • I used Xgen to create some fur for the stuffed ducks.

  • I use substance painter and its materials in this scene.

  • I took a substance painter material of a vest and painted it to fit the aesthetic of the room for the quilt.

  • I created a directional light with a feeling of being overexposed to help direct the eye of the viewer.

  • Scene is available in the Academy of Animated Art's marketplace.

  • Modeled by Burak Gok.

  • Cat wall art by Lady Of Meow.

  • I was responsible for Look Dev, lighting, compositing.

  • Software used: Maya, Xgen, Substance Painter, Redshift Renderer and Photoshop.
